Films for Change

Using the power of film to raise awareness of important social and environmental issues as the impetus for action, dialogue and change.

Our Cape Breton community continues to want to participate in a growing conversation about our future. As we look to other communities in transition, particularly those that are rising up from the grassroots social innovation movements, we see that storytelling is often at the heart and can be the impetus for deep change. Storytelling through film is powerful, engaging, global and innovative. New Dawn encourages citizens to engage, grow, transform, and perhaps be moved to inspired action on the issues that hold deep meaning. This series uses the power of film to raise awareness of important social, environmental issues to provide an accelerated and entertaining educational experience.

Just completing its third successful season, Films for Change volunteer committee are planning to launch a mini film festival next season, as well as to work in collaboration with People's School to mount a Film & Social Change Film Workshop and Mentorship program. Our current Facebook page close to 300 subscribers with a very active volunteer committee of 12 local citizens.
