IDEAS: Powered by Passion, now in its seventh season, is a monthly speakers’ series that runs for seven months each year. A keynote speaker, a speaker from a community organization and a singer-songwriter or small group of musicians provide guests with an evening of stimulating stories, conversation and song. Through IDEAS, New Dawn aspires to create a welcoming space that allows us to gather, share, and learn.
Spaces like these are invaluable to the processes of community conversation, development and visioning. They begin to allow us to see that leaders, agents of community change and inspired lives are all around us every day. The vibrant stories shared at IDEAS and in the hours, days and weeks afterwards are stories of individuals, organizations and communities who are forging their own paths, solving entrenched community problems, encountering unprecedented success and inspiring the rest of us to do the same. In short, IDEAS is about innovation, courage, imagination, passion, action, change, possibility, fearlessness, thinking and dreaming outside the box. It's about not waiting around for "leaders" to change the landscape, but about being the change we want to see. And it all stems from a little niggling deep in the heart... an idea, and it’s about a new narrative!
Each event features a volunteer community host, a young person sharing "what I'm thinking about now", a featured community action project, a featured artist or musician, and the cornerstone to the event, the main speaker - a local person doing and thinking what their passionate about. Collectively, the stories shared on the IDEAS stage over the last seven years contribute to the unearthing of our shared, creative, and courageous Cape Breton narrative. All of our IDEAS evenings are free and open to the public.
